At their moment of greatest glory, r/place summoned 90,000 peak active users (many of whom may have been clandestine bots in disguise) and Curiosity summoned 96,000 peak active users. However, although these figures may have been the stuff of legends at their time, they stand modest when compared to truly massive gatherings.
Both r/place and Curiosity were not games in the conventional sense, but rather intriguing social experiments.
The life of these “games” was but a fleeting moment in time. r/place was sparked to life on two solitary occasions, once on April Fool's day in 2007 for three days, and once more on April Fool's day in 2022 for a span of four days. Curiosity, on the other hand, had a solitary life span beginning from November 2012 only to cease to exist after 8 months.
